Below are practice pictures for our next project involving oil paints. For the first orange, I used a brush to smooth and blend the paints together. The fact that the paints blend together on the canvace instead of on the palate is really cool, but at the same time, hard to get used to. Sometimes the colors mudded together more than I wanted to, but with a little more work, it turned out very nice. I tried to recreate the shine on the peal of the orange by dapping spots of white on it with my palate knife. However, I felt the spots stood out too noticably compared to the smooth look of the rest of the orange, so I personaly do not care for how this looks, though I did decide to keep it.
For the second picture, I used one of my palate knives to glob spots of paint into the shape of an orange. This one was very fun, with lots of colors and value variation, and not to mention cool texture that was added by the chuncks of oil paint. Though I didn't think the colors were blending well, so I decided to experament by pressing the paints down with finger prints. The design came out very neat, and reminds me of an impressionist sort of look.
